Ruidoso business thrives despite fire, drought

Despite a large fire Thursday that destroyed nine homes, closed Ski Apache and burned acres of forest, Ruidoso officials are reporting business has not be affected in the weeks leading up to the Fourth of July holiday.

On Tuesday, officials at Ski Apache and the U.S. Forest Service announced they are suspending summer operations until later this summer because of the “extreme lack of moisture in the region and continued fires in Arizona and New Mexico.”

However, the closings do not affect Inn of the Mountain Gods and other tourist destinations in the area, Ruidoso officials said. Full story here…
