A word on the flea market in Datil – The Flea Market is doing very well and more and more people are coming to sell each week.\u00a0 Pat Henry plans to have the flea market through September.\u00a0 There is still time to de-clutter and sell some things.\u00a0 Big things – furniture and useful items priced right sell quickly.\u00a0 Each Saturday 8am-?\u00a0 (Usually 12:30 or 1pm)\u00a0 In front of the Datil Elementary School.\u00a0 $3 donation goes to the school.\u00a0 Come to shop or come to sell or both.\u00a0 Walk on pavement while you shop and talk to neighbors.<\/p>\n

Friday Sept 16th at 6 p.m.<\/strong> at the Quemado Senior Center there will be a meeting of the Catron County Historical Society. We will be very honored to have as our guest, Karl Laumbach, renowned Archaeologist, Author, and listed with Dona Ana Historical Society hall of fame, who will be sharing with us insights gained on the Albert Jennings Fountain murder mystery and the Spider Web Trail.\u00a0\u00a0 On February 1, 1896 Albert Jennings Fountain, a prominent attorney and politician, and his 8-year old son Henry were run off the road between White Sands and Las Cruces and presumably murdered. The bodies have never been found and the case remains New Mexico\u2019s premier murder mystery. Mr. Laumbach sets the stage and will share insights gained after 26 years of tracking a very cold case.<\/p>\n

September 16, 17,18-Annual cowboy shoot<\/strong> -3 miles west of Magdalena at mile marker 109. Watch for signs.\u00a0 New this year will be a country\/western bazaar with a lot of vendors selling quite a variety of items-all locally made. Starts at 9:00am each day.<\/p>\n

October 1st – 2pm-5pm<\/strong> LOCAL AUTHOR BOOK SIGNING – Featuring Northern Catron County Authors\u00a0 Michael Fuson, Ann Jenkerson, Thea Marshall and Uncle River – Baldwin Cabin Public Library\u00a0 They will have their latest books to sell and refreshments will be served. Everyone is invited to come and support our local talent. BCPL is located on FR 100 just off U.S. 60, 3 miles west of downtown Datil.<\/p>\n

Sat. October 8th\u00a0\u00a0 4pm <\/strong> Catron County Volunteer Firefighter Appreciation Dinner, Reserve Community Center. Full dinner course is $6.00 in advance\/$7.00 at door.\u00a0\u00a0 Tickets available from Fire Chiefs in county. Active duty county volunteer firefighters are to contact fire chief for special instructions.
