Meet the Neighbors…

What do you see when YOU look out your window? When you decide to leave the hustle and bustle of the big city behind and head for the wide open range, you’ll find your outlook—on life and out your windows—changes considerably for the better.

Take a peek at what awaits you in New Mexico and find out just how easy it is to go from bumper-to-bumper traffic, noisy neighbors and pesky pollution to a wandering trail through the National Forest, a herd of curious elk and pristine night skies.

This Week At Ponderosa Views

Meet Jacque.

Jacque

Jacque was born this past April on Mike and Cyndi Fowler’s place at Ponderosa Views. Sweet, isn’t he? Life at PV moves at a different pace than it does anywhere else—we think you might like it.

“When Mike retired from the San Diego Police Department after 23 years we moved out to the Ponderosa property we had purchased in March of 2007. We arrived at the Ponderosa property in Oct. 2010 and have been setting up our life ever since. We just wanted to live out the rest of our life on this beautiful, peaceful piece of property.

We enjoy the quiet, the fresh smell of the trees and the most breathtaking sunsets we have ever seen in our lives. We try to take pictures and send them back home for everyone else to see, but they just don’t capture what we are seeing. I guess they will just have to come out and see for themselves.

We love riding our horses out here in this wide open country with views that are beyond the imagination. Love the wildlife everytime we go anywhere. We occasionally look at each other and ask: Do you miss California? We just smile and say ‘I will never leave here. This place is Heaven.'”

New Life @ Ponderosa Views

Mike and Cindy Fowler left California for Ponderosa Views just outside of Pie Town, New Mexico, a little over a year ago, craving the area’s “peace and quiet.” They settled in and began the life they’d always dreamed about, raising horses, mules, goats, a pot bellied pig and miniature horses—one of which had a foal just five days ago.

Congratulations, Fowlers! The baby looks sweet as… pie 🙂

Don’t miss out on a great slice and some good stories from Mike, the owner, who says:
I’m focused on providing our customers with value for their money, combined with serving fresh food, prepared from scratch with the love of cooking and  good people.”

It’s all good! Visit www.goodpie.com for all the details.

May 20, 2012 Solar Eclipse: New Mexico Edition

On May 20-21, 2012 an annular solar eclipse will take place starting in China, moving up through Japan, under the Aleutian Islands, entering North America in Northern California, moving passed Reno, through Zion National Park in Southern Utah and the Grand Canyon in Northern Arizona, over Albuquerque, New Mexico and ending passed Lubbock, Texas.

This very awesome sight will be visible from the Pie Town / Quemado area shortly before sunset (weather permitting). The track of the eclipse is about 100 miles wide. To get a good view, select a site with an unobstructed view of the horizon to the WNW, where the sun will set.

Remember to have some eye protection: very dark smoked glass or tiny pinhole apertures. Click here for eye safety precautions.

Click here for an animation of the viewing.

Happy Eclipse!

Happy Pi Day! (OK, so it’s not PIE, but close enough!)

We love pi! Well, we really really love PIE, as in Pie Town pie, as in, the deliciousness that comes out of the Pie-O-Neer Café, but close enough!

According to Wikipedia:

Pi Day is a holiday commemorating the mathematical constant π (pi). Pi Day is celebrated on March 14 (or 3/14 in month/day date format), since 3, 1 and 4 are the three most significant digits of π in the decimal form. In 2009, the United States House of Representatives supported the designation of Pi Day.[2]

Larry Shaw created Pi Day in 1988.[3] The holiday was celebrated at the San Francisco Exploratorium, where Shaw worked as a physicist,[4] with staff and public marching around one of its circular spaces, then consuming fruit pies.[5] The Exploratorium continues to hold Pi Day celebrations.[6]”

So… HAPPY PI DAY!

PS And, next time you ARE in Pie Town, do visit Kathy at the Pie-O-Neer, “Home of New Mexico’s Best Dessert”!
